fx 6300 upgrade to fx 8320 or switch

skitz9417

hi im just wondering would a fx 8320 be a good upgrade from fx 6300 at 4.6ghz for video rendering and editing and gaming or should switch to intel

Video rendering yes. Gaming no. You're better off getting a Xeon or i7 than a 8320.

If he simply buy another AM3+ CPU he wont have to buy a new motherboard.

And There is not any i7 or xeon CPU in the same pricerange.

The 8320 only costs about 140 bucks on amazon.

The performance Will be better, The 8 cores will give the CPU a longer lifetime since when games start using more and more cores the CPU wont seem to slow down as fast.

EDIT: added a few things.

Sounds like a plan.

What would the budget on your GPU be? A r9 280x/285 will give you about twice as much Graphics performance than your Radeon HD 7870.

Bottlenecks are relative.

It varies depending on what game and what settings.

My system are bottlenecked by my CPU in most games,

but when i drag the shadows down and AA and textures up higher the load is pretty balanced.

The nh-d14 Will have No problems cooling down the 8320 with overhead for overclocking.

8320 on a ga-ma770t-ud3p? Let alone overclocking on it. He needs a new board so there's no point going with AMD if he can get for 50$ more a Xeon.

That's a lie. Just sellingtricks, thats all.

If he aint going to do Extreme level overclocking with liquid nitrogen or huge watercooling loops a GA-970A-UD3 is good enough.

If he aint going to do Extreme level overclocking with liquid nitrogen or huge watercooling loops a GA-970A-UD3 is good enough.

Which gives us the conclusion that there's no point that he goes with AMD again when it's barely cheaper;

CPU: Intel Xeon E3-1230 V3 3.3GHz Quad-Core Processor  ($248.98 @ SuperBiiz)
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-H81M-H Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard  ($44.38 @ Newegg)
Total: $293.36
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

CPU: AMD FX-8320 3.5GHz 8-Core Processor  ($134.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3 ATX AM3+ Motherboard  ($108.00 @ Newegg)
Total: $242.99

For 50$ more he will have a CPU that; A) Consumes a lot less power B) Will outperform the 8320 at 5GHz C) Will see a ~50-60% gain which is makes more sense than a 33% gain from a 8320 D) Will have 100% more single threaded performance which will be benefitial if he plays CPU limited games. Think again.

well i just want to try get to 4.5ghz or 4.7ghz if i can on my board

Not possible with 8320's. They do averagely these days around 4.2-4.4GHz and a 100$ won't push it above 4.5GHz properly

I cant guarantee it since i dont have experience on the 8320 in particular.

The GA-970A-UD3 are not a "lowest grade" board so you should be fine.

I can refeer to this Overclock.net Thread.

You got the fx 6300 to 4.4 Ghz so you should atleast get similar overclocks on the 8320.

Skitz already has the GA-970A-UD3 motherboard, Going for the Xeon would cost $150 more.

Ah :P Well yeah then I'll agree he should get the 8320 but I'll disagree that it will be useful for gaming.

Skitz also record gameplay for youtube,

With more cores he can have one or two cores working with the recording and the rest for the gaming

But it should not matter much anyways since the Xeon line is nice for recording and heavy loads.

It depends, My a6 6400k still works in most games(But i have to turn the shadows, light effects and sometimes how far it loads to low, it is about half as powerful as the fx 6300.

I think the 8320 is about 25% more powerful than the 6300 at stock clocks but the overclock performance scale better, So when you overclock the difference become bigger.
