I have been wanting to upgrade my computer for a while and I need to upgrade my case in order to fit anything else in. So I am getting a Corsair 730T case, but need a new motherboard and processor to go with it. My budget is $500 for a new motherboard and processor. I will be using it for high end gaming and not much else. No photoshop or any other fancy things, just gaming. Any suggestions as to what I should get?

you've mentionned high-end Gaming so i assumed you might want to go SLI at some point down the road so this board is SLI ready,

Any reason as to why Intel keeps popping up and not AMD in terms of processors? I just feel like I wouldn't use all of the bells and whistles that comes in an Intel processor, while I could get a AMD FX-8350 for $179.99 and it has 4.0GHz as well.

Same question... Only for gaming, wouldn't it be better to have a high end water cooled amd over an expensive Intel?

I am wanting to upgrade my processor and am using my computer for high end gaming only. No photoshop or anything fancy like that. So I feel like AMD would be the better choice seeing as how I could get AMD FX-8350 for $179.99 with 4.0GHz, while Intel has a bigger more expensive selection that I feel like I wouldn't use all the bells and whistles for it.

no, when gaming intel wins every time.

AMD gives you more cores and even slightly higher clocks for a lower price. Sounds great, right? Well not really. Intel CPUs perform a lot more work per clock cycle and per core. And most game don't really benefit from more than 2-4 cores. The end result is that Intel is generally better for gaming, while AMD CPUs are great for multithreaded workloads if you're on a budget (Intel CPUs can certainly match and beat them, but then you need to pay a lot more; the FX-8350 is less than $200, while a Core i7-5960X is in the $1000 neighborhood).

Intel > AMD.

(Hope I did that the right way, Intel beats amd.)

i5 4690K is a great choice, very powerful cpu for the $230 price or so, you could get it even cheaper if you live near a microcenter.

absolutely not, AMD is at least 3 generations behind intel in core performance and for gaming strong core is required therefore even a core i3 CPU perform better than an FX 8 core at 4ghz in most games...

You really mean that an i3 performs better than a 9590 or even a 8350?

in most games, yes it does believe it or not.

Only in some highly threaded games like watchdogs or crysis 3 does the FX catch up to the i3 but an i5 (even a low clocked one) is untouchable by even the highest overclocked FX.

Most games only use 2 or 4 cores for processing...some use 6 but even then the i5 per core performance is such that it beats a 6 or 8 core FX handily.

Men, that sounds a bit fanboy

i upgraded from an FX-8320 that i had running at 4.6ghz for 5 months...i know what i'm talking about.

If you can afford something like this, go for it it's much better than anything AMD as to offer and it's much more efficient as well:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: Intel Core i5-4460 3.2GHz Quad-Core Processor ($179.99 @ Newegg)

Motherboard: ASRock H97 Anniversary ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($74.78 @ Newegg)

And you don't have to worry about temps and overclocking and buying a good CPU cooler on top of that.

So, if you have a rig right now, with an amd 9590, an you want to change mobo + processor, you would consider going to an i3 like an upgrade?

Could perform close, but never the same, be a little logic. If you say an i5, it could make sense, but this?

i play modern games and some of these like watchdogs and crysis3 does like more than a dual core and NO i would not consider an i3, but if i was purely gaming and was to build a new rig yes i would go with a core i3 as i would have an upgrade path to an i5 or an i7...but yes the core i3 if you consider purely gaming perform better than the AMD.

Completely irrelevant.  Websites like that should be banished from the internet because they do more harm than good.

Here are some real benchmarks:

http://www.hardcoreware.net/intel-core-i3-4340-review/2/

http://www.hardwarepal.com/best-cpu-gaming-9-processors-8-games-tested/4/

If you are building a computer for gaming, you want an Intel processor.  The only exception to this is Watch Dogs and Crysis3.  Those are the only two games that will run better on an FX than an i3.

Also, its not all about FPS.  Frame Time is very important too.  When you get an Intel processor, you are going to get lower frame times, which results in smoother gameplay.
