I have server 2012 installed on my pc that I use as a server. I use rdp to manage it. I have 2 hard drives of 1tb each for storage and a 160gb boot drive. Server manager and create and format hard disk partitions show nothing but they are there in device manager.

My 2012 R2 server is down right now but you need to go into device manager and click on Disk Management. Then right click on the disks and select Online for each drive.

Check that both drives are connected to sata ports controlled by the onboard chipset(not a marvell controller) and that both are provided power. Just double check the connections.

Make sure the sata mode is set to AHCI in the BIOS and that both drives show up in the BIOS as well. If they are in the bios then its something software side but it needs to show up in disk management to work. In my 2012 R2 server the server sees all but the boot drive as offline but the VM sees them as native storage.

Checked that yesterday, all connections are there and bios sees them.

Try reinstalling the chipset or sata drivers for your motherboard that support Server 2012

Done that too, I am out of options I guess, I might just have to buy a sata controller.

I read a few people have issues with smartarry. I would check some HP literature as it's going to be on that end.

Examples include: Array Configuration Utility(ACU) Or Option Array Configuration Utility(ORCA)
