NVIDIA Windows Kernel Mode Driver stopped responding

So i've been getting this error lately whenever i use my video card, whether it's for videos or games my screen goes black and then after 5 seconds or more it comes back on and gives me an error stating that the Kernel Mode Display Driver has stopped. Someone please help cause this is really annoying and irritating.

Is the card overheating? If you don't know, download MSi Afterburner and check. The card shouldn't get hotter than 90°C.

Are you running a beta driver? If you are, scale back to the latest stable release.

And welcome to the forum.

Oh thanks, and I forgot to mention that i have already installed MSI afterburner and have set the fans to max whenever i hit 70-90 °C. This happens like 2-3 times a day even when I watch youtube videos or even when im idling. I've had experience updating my driver to the latest Nvidia Driver but it seems to occur more than the one i started with, so i rolled back to the original.

I would recommend trying reinstalling the driver. It might just be that.

If that doesn't help, try underclocking the card a bit. If that does help, the is most likely dying, and you should RMA the PC if possible.

You underclock the card using MSi Afterburner. You just move the slider that says ´Core Clock´ a bit to the left.

The RMA process is different from country to country, so I'm not sure.

My best guess is that you have to contact Alienware(Dell) and tell them about your problem. Depending on the warranty period of the PC, they will then take it into repair.

Oh yeah, i've RMA'd it before and when they gave it back to me they changed something i dont know what it was but it was better, then after about a month later it started black screening again and this time when they returned it i couldn't access Nvidia Experience like i use to before i returned it. Hmmm, and plus they removed the anti-virus program, maybe they did that cause it was interfering with the video driver performance.

That is a possibility. The anti virus could interfere. What anti virus program do you use? And do you use it currently?

A last possibility could be that the card needs reseating. This would mean opening up the computer, removing and reinserting the card.

At the moment i don't have an anti-virus software and i'm doing pretty fine without it but before i returned my PC it had McAfee installed already. Well, i don't want to open up my computer cause, you know how the x51 is pretty squished inside cause it's a small form factor, so to get to the GPU i think you have to go through the components on top of it.

Not as far as I can tell

If you decide to open it up, maybe try to dust things out aswell. It might just be that dust has build up in the case.

You shouldn't panic when you work with computers. If a component fit into a slot once, it will fit again. You just shouldn't force it. Take your time.

I hope it will work for you.
