my wife just found me a decent laptop for general use. it came with a 500gb hdd no ssd. i want to pop a 248 gb ssd into it(500+ too expensive). i dont care about storage space as its just for general use i have plenty of usb sticks for music, and other files. i have a 2000 gaming rig i built for gaming so if any thing its only gonna be casual light gaming if at all. all my full size pcs and my wifes ultrabook have ssds in it and my new pc.  is slow loading  to me since im used to the snapyness ssds now.

my question is whats the easiest preferably free way to copy the drive to the ssd keeping all the partion layouts in tact. i understand the main os partion will shrink but i want to keep the restore partitions intact for repairs and the sony vaio assist functions. i figured id have about 160-170 gigs free after transfering the current drive to the small one.

im also considering a sshd but the reviews are all over the place. and im not to thrilled that it  only seems to have a low grade 8gb caching ssd.(from what ive read)  and the wd2 ssd is to small  for all the partitions.

thanks for any help

http://www.amazon.com/Vantec-NexStar-SuperSpeed-Adapter-Black/dp/B003XGAGKW you can try this. Look around a bit more for a cheaper one. Or toss both of them in desktop and transfer that way.

1. What laptop is it?

2. An SSD will beat out a sshd, all an sshd is is just a HDD with a small ssd in it used to store the most frequently accessed data.
