I would say if your gaming go with the second option. The first with 5820k would be more for editing and rendering then gaming.

Plus X99 isn't good for gaming yet.

If you're talking about raw power, the x99 is better, but it is also more expensive. Unless you're doing video editing, rendering, etc. don't get the x99

Then stick to z97, its more reliable right now, and is supported by more things.
