Y510p issues

Go to solution Solved by spenser_l,

Before you go buying a new wireless card, I would suggest making sure that your drivers are updated.  Others who have run into similar sounding issues found a solution when they updated their wireless card drivers.  If you have another computer to download them and use a flash drive to put it on your laptop try that. Or if you can plug in your laptop via ethernet cable.

Good luck.

Don't know about that specific laptop, but wireless cards are usually pretty easy to replace. They just have one or two screws holding them in and have two connectors which lead to the antenna which is usually built in the screen, that just snap on to the card. It will take longer to take the laptop apart than replacing the card.

I have the Y410p and I would think that the Y510p is not too dissimilar in terms of hardware.  That being said, I've taken my laptop apart and the wireless card shouldn't be any more difficult than replacing the RAM, which is very simple.

As for the model of the wireless card, you should be able to go into your device manager, and drop down the "Network Adapters" menu, and see which card you have.
