Hello, I recently persueded my uncle to get a samsung SSD.

I'm installing it to a laptop that only supports one hard drive.

So what I want to do is plug both his new SSD and hard drive into my computer (i have all the cables) and clone his previous hard drive to his new SSD.

I thought that Samsung data migration software was capable of doing this, but looking at the software now, it looks like you can only clone the system drive to another samsung SSD. (it's possible I just have no idea how to use this).

Does anyone know of a software that is capable of doing what I want to do?

If the SSD is larger than the HDD you can use clonezilla (livecd) to partition clone the drive and once you are done extend the SSD partition in windows to the full size.

His new SSD is 250gb, the old HDD is 500gb.

However, only 70gb of his old HDD is being used.

You can reduce the size of the partition so you can clone it then extend it to fill the whole disk. When I tried to clone my OS (Windows 7) with Clonezilla it failed due to the fact that it only supports MBR, not GPT.

I recommend you take a look at EaseUS:
