760G

Speedbird
Go to solution Solved by Archangel1994,

The board is AM3+, but I know that the only reason it works with AM3+ CPUs is its modified BIOS, so I called it AM3.

I've already ordered the board actually, I just wanted to ask if there are any precautions that I should take.

No real precautions really, 45W TDP will be hard-pressed to wreck anything. If you are really concerned about temperatures I would say get a good aftermarket cooler such as the Hyper 212 EVO. Otherwise you have nothing to worry about really.

Edit: Mark thread as solved if you are done please.

Hi

So I had to buy a micro-ATX AM3 motherboard, and they're all using the 760G chipset. I've heard bad things about it, and I don't need USB3 or SATA 6 Gb/s. I'm also using a Sempron 145 with only a 45W TDP. Is there anything else I should be worried about? Is it still possible to upgrade to an FX4300 if I ever need to? Thanks.

Nothing to worry about though I would say get an AM3+ motherboard (AM3 CPU's still work in AM3+ sockets) so you can upgrade to an FX-6300/8320. I recommend getting 990FX chipset if you upgrade to 8320 and 970 if you go below the 8320.

This is why you should not get an FX CPU for ANY scenario other than rendering on a budget http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/286142-fx-8350-r9-290-psu-requirements/?p=3892901 http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/266481-an-issue-with-people-bashing-the-fx-cpus/?p=3620861

Okay, thanks. I've just had previous bad experiences with a 760G board (ASRock 960GM-VGS3 FX), thought that I did something wrong.
