which is better ?

deathclown

which is better for intake/exhaust 2x 120mm fans or 1x 200mm fan?

If the 120's are good fans then the 2 120's if not use the 200

The 120mm would be better, because in theory they cover more space than a single 200mm.

This ^

But you also have to take into account the mounting points, perhaps the 200mm can be mounted at a better spot then the other 2 fans

And ofcourse RPM and how much air each fan can move per minute is also important

static pressure is another thing to consider between the two where the 120s would win out in most cases

The 200mm  would be a better choice as it would be able to move more air at lesser rpm which means silent operation.
But it depends on the quality of ur fans.

For silence              > 200mm fan

For performance     > x2 120mm fans

not necessarily, 2 actual high end fans like blacksilent pros will almost certainly be quieter than most 200m fans because most 200mm fans are pretty shit.

For the majority the 200mm fan would be less audible.

Well I compared the FZ 200 from NZXT and and BitFenix Spectre Pro 200mm against two AF120s, quiet edition, along with (again) BitFenix Spectre Pro 120mm. Here's what I concluded with:

  • Cheaper to buy a single FZ, just one more dollar (approximately) for the Spectre Pro 200mm.
  • BitFenix Spectre Pro 200mm can push a lot more air with an ~148 CFM rating all the while being the most quite because of the uber low 900 RPM operating speed.
  • BitFenix Spectre Pro 120mms are better than the AF120 quiet editions because of the higher air pressure rating, lower operating speed, so consequently it is quieter, marginally though, all the while with a higher CFM rating.

Main point to get from this:

If you can fit a 200mm fan, get it instead of dual 120s.
