Hi, this is my first post here :P

Anyways, I would like to know the performance difference betweenthe Geforce 770 and the R9 290. I'll be mainly using it for Gaming but maybe a bit of video editing also.

R9 290 will pretty much hand the 770 it's ass. I'm not sure what the exact difference in numbers is, but I know there is a difference. But the R9 290 also does cost more.

Not exactly the same, but I'm looking at the R9 280x compared to the 770 and 290 mostly in terms of price per performance. I also really want at least 3 GB VRAM for my Skyrim HD modding pleasure. The 1 GB 650 Ti is really not cutting it... :P

Any insight or advice? Don't want to go above about $330 USD.

The 290 is noticeably more powerful, though personally I would chose the 770 instead. (I prefer the features nvidia offers compared to what amd offers.)

280X is pretty similar in performance to the 770.  The 280 would probably do pretty well too, it's not too far behind the 280X.  If a 280 is priced a good bit lower than the 280X then that might be a good option.

LOL features. The best feature I enjoy is when my games run smooth and fast especially for a decent price.

R9 290 vs GTX 770, the 770 fall flat:

http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/1068?vs=1037

It's a shame that those GPU's are about the same price...the 290 should cost a lot more...or the 770 should be much cheaper depends on which side of the fence you are i guess..

The GTX 770 is a very good card (I have it in fact :) ) and would probably fill your needs without any problem (I play at BF4 ultra at a very solid 60fps without any problem).

If you have the money, the 290 may be interesting because it is more powerful, but at that point, the $/fps is lower.

I'd say go with the 770 and invest on other parts of you PC, like a SSD or a better CPU (or CPU cooler) :)

Good luck!

Gamestream, Shadowplay, GSync, PhysX, Cuda.

Not to mention they also draw less power and output less heat.

pfff...physx...you know what? i'd trade my 780 for a 4GB R9 290 of the same quality any day of the week...let alone a much less powerful 770!

it's a no brainer i dont even see why people can argue on this.

Did I ever say that the 770 is better than the 290? No.

Why is it that people think they have to give me shit about preferring nvidia cards?

Ya Physx pff AMD offers a whole freaking graphics API not just a few added sparks and small time effects that are more of a sideshow distraction than anything.

totaly agree with you...anyway these ',features'' gimmick should not even be considered when buying a new GPU IMHO, go for performance/price and get a card you think look good with a good third party cooler...thats it!..and in that regard ATM AMD dominate the market and the R9 290 is the best offers they have IMHO...

At the time of purchase when i bought my 780 she was 50$ cheaper than an R9 290 hence the reason i picked it otherwise i would have liked a 290 for more VRAM and faster memory on a wider bus, it's a better card than my 780.

Ya I agree I would have picked up a 780 to during the coin mining craze. Gimmicks/extra features aside I like to buy GPUs based on how they perform for the money call me crazy I guess LOL. nvidia is like a hot chick all done up clothes, makeup and all etc and then when you get her in bed and take her cloths off you find out she has a dink LOL. AMD is like the girl next door that never gets noticed or appreciated like Adrian in Rocky but shit underneath she is a real beauty.
