Hi

i tried to overclock my cpu and as soon as i changed the frequency the computer started to restart itself on boot up.

it would start, shut down, start, shut down, then start and go to boot.

anyone know what the problem might be?

How did you Overclock it? Tell us your steps? Did you use the Multiplier or the Frequency? What speeds did you use? Have you OC before?

Normally if mine does that i just force it off by the power button and wait for my MB light to turn off and turn it back on then it works and prompt saying it failed, If not turn off by plug/PSU and try, and if not then you have to clear the bios  by removing the CMOS.

i change the multiplier and i set it at 4.2ghz and is was stable in prime 95 and heaven menchmark 4.0. it was the first time i tried to overclock

Okay, you should be able to get much higher speeds, i got around 4.7ghz, but unstable on a 8350. 4.4Ghz should be fine to do just check with prime and if it can stay cool enough.

Just try to power off the PSU for 10 seconds and turn it on and see if it works, if not clear the CMOS chip to reset the bios settings.

if i turn of the psu for ten sec will it fix that the computer restarts itself on startup

Your computer is most likely restarting since and failing POST and turning off, and repeating (You may have a setting in the BIOS to turn on after power losss etc which may be why its turn on over and over)

Turning the PSU or plug socket off will turn everything completely off leaving no power in the Motherboard so it could reset the settings or sorta fix it self, thats what i normaly do when messing around with OCing. if no take the CMOS chip off

the CMOS chip is the battery right? and desnent the bios settings reset if you do that?

Is it crashing or giving an error message?

Sometimes with newer motherboards they will shut off, turn back on, turn off, and back on when there's a bios update or a significant change in the bios. This should only occur once.

no errors it just starts, shuts down, starts, shutdowns, starts and then goes in to windows

not anymore i set the cpu back to default but as soon as i change the  frequency

But, when you change the frequency it only does it once? As in it only does this when you change something? This sounds normal, try turning it on and restarting without changing anything.

If what you mean is that whenever the frequency is higher this happens, try resetting the cmos by replacing the battery

Try to get back into the UEFI bios and reset it back to defaults. That will usually fix the problem. For the overclocking I would like to see some screen shots.

i've already set every thing back to default so it doesent do it anymore but i want to know if there is any way to fix it so i can overclock it

no it does it every time i restart the computer with the frequency changed

When you change the frequency do you change the voltage?

Turn Turbo Core off and then try to make it go up by 100Mhz via the multiplier so  from 20 to 21 etc

What Voltages is your CPU using? and is it Auto or Fixed and what about the over volt or under volt settings

not anymore i set the cpu back to default but as soon as i change the  frequency
