It depends, 2x4 will perform slightly better than 1x8 but it probably wont be noticable, but 1x8 will be more upgradable

with 2x4 yes you can have the dual channel feature immediately but as you can see if you are planning to upgrade in the future and have a new set of 2x4 sticks you can only get 16 gigs of ram at max with all 4 dimm slots. but if you have the 1x8 you can get a total of 32 gig of ram at max with all 4 dimm slots. so with this guess it's a question of what is needed and the budget available.
