Need DvD Drive help Please.

Go to solution Solved by Jlryan,

So to let me clarify:

You have a DVD Writer in your computer that won't write to blank DVD's, but your laptop will write to them perfectly fine.

Your DVD Writer in your computer will only write to DVD's if they have been initialized or written to by your Laptop first.

Sounds like a buggy DVD Writer, What's the manufacturer and model number? Some manufacturers provide firmware updates.

Also just to be sure in case it's not the DVD Writer itself, try a different burning application, I recommend: Ashampoo Burning Studio FREE

Another note to take: Some writers are funny with different manufacturer of blank discs, I get the best results from Traxdata/Ritek if you can find them where you live.

Sorry, hadn't noticed the model number in the OP.

The Sony CRX310EE is not a DVD Writer, only a DVD Reader and CD Writer. Meaning it can only write to 700MB Blank CD's.

Hello my DvD Drive can only read disc that have data on them and when i use my laptop and burn anything onto the same disc that it wouldnt detect .. It detects it and then i can add data to it.. Might it be my driver or maybe another driver is messing with it ?

I have tried the delete of upper and lower files and uninstall the driver and reset computer.

I am running windows 8.1 and the drive is a Sony CRX310EE ATA

So essentially what you're saying is that your drive can only read and not write?
