Oveclocking VRAM

I have to be honest here. There are few things that make my man bits shrink like the thought of overclocking my graphic card's VRAM.

I once had a perfectly good (and expensive) video card die when the VRAM gave up the ghost. it was overclocked, stable and with no artifacts till one day it died in the arse with no warning. The screen was all wonky and stuff indicating the VRAM had kicked the bucket.

I currently have an Sapphire R9 280 Dual-x OC edition (with Hynix DDR5), and legend says that I can push the RAM on that thing from 1250 to 1450 or so, but I'm too chikcen.

 

 

What are your thoughts on overclocking VRAM and does it actually affect the minimum FPS numbers (which is the important bit)?

Isn't anywhere near as advantageous as overclocking core

IIRC it only increases load times for textures, which may reduce stuttering in some games

Right, so the risk hardly seems worth it.

I'll leave the VRAM speed alone.
