Upgrade Suggestions

Hi all

 

I'm currently running the following

 

i5 2500k @ 4.0GHz

GTX 650Ti 2GB

 

Playing all the games I want to play at perfectly 1080p acceptable settings (Planetside 2, League of Legends, Archeage, Arma 3)

 

However, acceptable and kick ass are not the same thing. 

 

Question: what is the cheapest graphics card upgrade I can make with enough of noticeable performance gain to be worth it in games like the above? Notably, Archeage and Arma 3 are at mostly medium settings for me. I'd like to play at 1080p on high to max settings. 

 

Alternatively: should I just wait until I can't play any of the games I want at all before upgrading.

50 series cards from nvidia are always slugs. Get R9 270 and be prepared to be delighted both with performance and how much of it you got for how little you paid = best feeling in the world.

If you have a decent cooler/ willing to purchase one those 2500Ks will overclock to the moon, I had a 2550K I got OC'ed to 5.2 Which would probably give you quite a bit better performance, especially in Arma.

 

I'd recommend the R9 280 or the GTX 760, I'm actually in the process of selling one of mine (760), if you're really interested let me know. 

 

I've got a 4670K @ 4.3 and SLI'ed 760 in the infantry showcase I push 90-130 pushing through the forest at the beginning. 

 

I'm actually gonna go turn SLI off and give it a run

i dont care about how it looks so i guess Asus one because is cheaper ? MSI one has higher clock speed does that make any difference in gaming ?

I own the MSI Gaming Editons of the 760s, I can vouch for their crazy cooling, I've got these cards as 1290mhz and 1270mhz on air. However I do know the DCUII are very good coolers but also I've read about more problems with ASUS cards. 

 

Yes it will make a difference, but a very minuscule one, you could probably OC the Asus card to match it.

yes the 280 is a superior card.
