Does anyone have any experience using Sports mode on an automatic to manually shift? How does it work?

My Liberty (Subaru Legacy for non-Aussies) has sports shift/paddle shift and basically you control the gear shifts with an automatic clutch. With paddle you can also force shift while you're in auto if you want a sudden burst of speed and don't have something like Subaru's SI Drive management without going into full manual control. Having said that if i put it in Sports #, it pretty much makes the same late shifts as you would if you were driving with a high performance style of shifting on manual control. P = park

R = reverse

N = neutral

D = drive (automatic mode)

3/2/1 = manually selectable gears

L = low gear (usually 1st)

B = engine breaking for electric and hybrid cars

OD Off = overdrive off (goes up to 3rd)

S = sport

W = winter mode

i like sequential, it's a manual without the usage of clutch after surpassing the first gear and it feels automatic afterwards! :D

You mean a semi-auto? They are really crap most of the time because they jerk in city driving if you are not careful and are really unreliable. I much rather have either manual or automatic.

Also CVT cars can get much better fuel economy compared to manual and they need less maintenance as well. Also can last for a long time without much attention.

No, it's not. It's sequential manual gearbox and also used in motorsport! It allows you to shift only backward and forward without the use of the clutch which is easier and more efficient than most of automatic transmissions!

I was close to getting a manual but damn i really liked the DSG in my GTI. I used to drive an automatic nissan versa and the difference between both transmissions was pretty big lol...

Also, little bit more efficient than manual in terms of mpg. Of course it all depends how u drive :).
