Making a forum/e-commerce site

Go to solution Solved by xXxYOLOxSWAGxXx_420BlazeIt,

Thanks anyways

As I said in the title, I am researching making a forum/e-commerce site in the way that it would be sort of a mix of the two. I'm in the super early stage where i'm still figuring out if I can do it and how I would, along with if I even get chosen by the people I would be doing the site for. Without going into too much detail the site would need to be able to upload word documents, accept payments, and have a couple different classes of users.

Iv'e been doing programming for a couple years and have made a website before, but nothing that is on this scale.

Does anybody have any suggestions on what to use to make the site?

Any help will be appreciated.

I did a e-commerce site for an assignment at school and the main concept of it was adding and updating products. To do it we had to create an empty database and a "add item" page where an admin would be asked for the product name, pictures etc. It would then be added to the database and the page would appear in the page list with all the information from the database.

As for the user levels, you could make a database with a field of website use (admin, customers etc) and sort that on the register and login page. If the user is a customer you can "hide" certain parts of the website like adding a product.

Paypal also has a tool to link to their payment site i think.

I would like to play around with magento but whenever i go to try and download the community version it just brings me back to their main page and nothing happens, oh well. As far as woo commerce goes, if I understand it right it is just a plugin for word press, right?
