I have 2 year old computer and I can't really do anything that needs more power (now waiting for gta5 to play and also planning to get 4k camera so power to edit 4k)

I have dual core i3 - 2100 at 3.1 GHz

8gb ram

Intel intergrated graphics card Inter HD graphics family 2000

running windows 7 ultimate, service pack 1

Should I just get new Graphics card (i was thinking something like geforce 670, 770) which supports games as gta5 and (hopefully) 4k via Displayport [60hz is important for gaming, although i'll play most games at 1080p]

or should I get whole new computer with something much better (i want i7,8-16gb ram and geforce 770,780 or similar)

Thanks (every saved $ is welcome)

ps: sorry for my english

U wont be able to play 4k with a 770, and i would obviously go with the new pc, if u wanna do video editing...

rig: i7 4770k @4.1Ghz (delidded), Corsair Vengeance 8GB 1600Mhz, ROG Maximus VI Hero, Noctua NH-D14, EVGA GTX980SC, Samsung 850 EVO 500GB, Corsair SF600, self-built wooden Case, CoolerMaster QuickFire TK, Logitech G502, Blue Yeti, BenQ GW2760HS

If you will be playing at 4k you should get a r9 280x and upwards Or a gtx 780.

A gtx 770 or 280 is enough for pretty much anything

But your i3-2100 probably wont gain much after a gtx 760/660ti or r9 270x.

your mistake is 4k and an i3.......

Since when do the resolution have anything to do with the CPU?

are you serious?

Aint the resolution of the monitor GPU dependent?

If not, Why not?

Because when you choose 720p, your game window (call it a client window) will be rendering 720p fullscreen. 1280x720 dimensions, using 1920x1080p is of course going to create extra CPU load for drawing more pixels within the client window.

Yes the GPU handles the brute force, but the CPU will still be swapping data back and forth, and higher resolutions = more data.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

Ah, now i get it.

But is more than a i3-2100 really needed for that?

i3 will not cut it. An i5 or i7 is needed.

You'll run games fine, but your minimum fps and maximum fps won't be as great a better capable CPU.

Due to Games not always being truly optimized, and various other things like background tasks and tiny obscure CPU eating tidbits, your CPU can only do so many instructions at once.

Background Data (Windows+Apps+Random swapping back n forth) and then Games on top.. having more CPU power = better

i3 will hold up well in most games, & your GPU will be at 100% load except for when the game engine requires so much CPU at any given time it gets a little bogged down (so your minimum fps will be lower than quadcores) but your average fps will be very similar to quadcores unless the game engine has a flutter and it goes down for a split second and rises back up.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

as said before, that i3 is going to bottleneck a high end card... i'd suggest upgrading to an i5

but if i connect monitor to graphics card (770 or 780) wouldn't it work then? i don't plan on playing in 4k, 1080p is fine for games

What is your maximum budget and what would you be comfortable spending?

What gaming performance are you expecting?

the best i can get for what i need with lower price (so 4k video editing and playable gta5 at 1080p or lower)

If you have a Dedicated GPU you Cant use the on board one.

The CPU/GPU Has to work together, If one is lacking in performance the other one will not be able to work in the full extent.

For playing at 1080p with high graphics a 270/280 or gtx 750ti/760 cuts it on most games, But you also need a CPU with enough performance.

Video editing is more CPU/RAM dependant than GPU dependant.
