Hello everyone,

I am a new guy over here but been looking at linustechtips video's for some time.

Let me introduce myself first. I am Mechaniek from Holland, and a whopping 30 years old.

The name i chose because my name is Niek and love anything in the field of technology.

Now that i have got that out of the way i want to ask a question.

My old AMD x2 6000+ is dying on me and i am saving money to buy me a new rig.

Now in the early 2000's i completed a it education but never done something with it ever since so i had to read up on a lot of stuff.

Still can't get my head around the new technology. so that is why i'm posting this.

I want to build myself a new computer for: gaming, Photoshop and using solidworks that i need for my job.

I am trying to piece together a rig to that specifications but i need a little help. i have a lot of questions like:

should i go for the socket 1050 or 2011?

Should i go with a SLI configuration?

Air or  liquid cooling? and Why?

16 or 32 GB ram?

Optical drive or not?

what is the difference between: 3930 and 4930 of the socket 2011 family?

What graphics card would be suitable? are the EVGA cards any good? i just can't figure out witch one is best for the system :(

I already own:

- The beautiful beautiful thermaltake chaser mk-1

- Be quiet dark rock pro 3 (really love this cooler!!)

what i am looking at:

Intel® Core™ i7-3930K, 3,2 GHz (3,8 GHz Turbo Boost)

Corsair Hydro Series H80i (just have the idea that liquid will cool better than air.)

ASUS SABERTOOTH X79 (is there a reason to go with the deluxe if i don't use WiFi?)

Corsair 16 GB DDR3-1866 Kit

be quiet! Dark Power Pro 10 750W

2x Kingston HyperX 3K SH103S3/120G, 120 GB SSD

Western Digital Black, 3 TB

Razor Deathadder

Asus 27 inch VG278HE

My budget will be between 2500 and 2700 euro's incl the monitor.

I hope someone can shine a little light on my really really overfull mind.

Thanx so much in advance!

Could you explain a little why you chose those parts? like why msi motherboard and not a asus sabretooth?

Remember to use the quote function (welcome to the forums check the guide in my sig etc etc shitty promotion)

5930K because I don't care about budget (even though the 4790K is better at games)

MSI board because after I said I wanted X99 I wanted the cheapest board (and black is sex, I don't want the white the ASUS provides)

Kraken X61 is one of the best AIOs.

DDR4, cheap 16GB all good (G.Skill is a good brand)

Storage is storage

The 780 is placeholding the 900 series (get that)

Enthoo Pro is everyone's desired case

750W is enough.

I need IPS, so I chose that Acer 1440p, and I'm an Acer fanboy.

WNA because I can't use ethernet (not applicable for you, most likely)

Keyboard/Mouse/Headphones is up to you.

EDIT: Of course, everything is ultimately up to you and whether or not you want to adopt X99 early or use tried and true Z97.

This will do nicely. Quotes are in US$.

  1. ASUS ATX DDR4 3000 (O.C.) Motherboard X99-DELUXE $389.99
  2. Intel Core i7-5820K $389.99
  3. Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB $385.99
  4. EVGA SuperNOVA 750G2 80PLUS Gold Certified $109.99
  5. NZXT Technologies Kraken X41  $109.99
  6. ASUS VG278HE 27-Inch Screen LED-lit Monitor 144hz 1ms $372.95
  7. EVGA GeForce GTX 780 6GB SC $589.99  OR Sapphire R9 290X 4GB GDDR5 TRI-X OC $547.47
  8. Corsair Vengeance M95  $49.99
  9. Samsung Electronics 840 EVO-Series 250GB  $118.99

Total with the 780 6GB = $2517.87 or 1945.08 euros, with the r9 290x = US$2475.35 or 1912.24 euros

You could do a build with SLI or Crossfire for 2500 - 2700 euros but i think money is hard to come by for most of us and it is always good to be under budget than over.

A water-cooled mid-tier gaming PC.

Thank you both for your input!

I have looked at the prices over here and they are much more expensive than in USD.

The kraken cooler i have to order from amazon because they don't sell them at my favorite web shop.

The option Leonard have me costs more money i have a pretty good feeling about it.

Still most of the parts are on delivery time unknown over here. so i will have to do an inquiry with the web shop.

but thank you very much, you have made it a little easier :)

B)

but you didn't put where you were going to purchase your components you just listed the currency so i figured that you would get the stuff on amazon.co.uk or overclockers.uk or something like that.

Never heard of this site but then again i don't live in Europe or where ever you are from.\

Didn't know you could get Gainward and Palit GPUs man...those are great.

You could get this for the motherboard too when all parts are in stock.

I live in the Netherlands, that's on the map right from Great Britain. over here the Gainward and Palit GPU's are not available.

But i have been wondering, in the early days you had to combine products of one brand to make them work the best.

I guess that would not be the case today? since you mentioned the MSI board. and i am also wondering what board would be best.

Or are all the parts great and can you piece together what ever you want?

You can put different parts from different makers together with out a problem. Just check my signature, different brands working nicely. Oh so you shop at alternate.nl? welll ASUS, MSI , Gigabyte, Sapphire  are good brands for GPUs, ASUS and MSI, are good for motherboards.
