hdd not detected

Go to solution Solved by Captain_WD,
Hey givingtnt,

As @terrytek suggested, you should check in Windows if you can see the drive somewhere. Try checking in Device Manager, or Disk Management to see if there's any sign of the drive. If it just need a partition, right click on My Computer and go to manage; on the left go to Storage-Disk Management and click on the hard drive to assign it a drive letter.

Also you can run a disk check on the drive to make sure it works properly with no bad sectors (happens even when they are new). A good tool to do that with is WD Data Lifeguard Diagnostic (I've put a link at the bottom).

If non of this helps, try swapping the SATA cable with a different one (DVD Combo drive for example) and see if that helps. It might be a faulty cable issue or a SATA port issue.

Post updates to keep us on track on how this is going,

Captain_WD.

It might be detected in Windows, but probably a partition wasn't set up.
