So the 285 was talked about over a few months ago and was released this month.  Anyone estimate when the r9 285x will come out since it will replace the 280x thats out?

This was a leak about a moth ago and the 285 is now out.

I thought the 285X was going to have 2GBs of VRAM, not 3GBs like it says in the article.

The Tonga GPU has been confirmed to have 32 CUs netting 2048 GCN cores. It's very strange why AMD decided to launch the cut down version of the die first & what's even stranger is that Tonga is actually larger than Tahiti with 600 million additional transistors yet it has the same number of GCN cores and a smaller memory bus, what gives ?
AMD is obviously withholding crucial details about Tonga which I believe they'll disclose with the 285X. I'd imagine AMD would either release Tonga next week or wait until Maxwell comes out to more accurately guage the market and release it at a more competitive stage.
