What is the HDD activity LED for, I cut mine off

It's to let you know when one of your storage drives is being accessed. If you really need to know when your storage drive is being accessed, there are software utilities for that.

Did anyone else cut their HDD activity LED off, I didn't really see any use in it.what exactly is it for? Also cut the 1394, since dont really think they are used anymore

Yeah I personally don't even have it plugged in. All it does it let you know when your hard drive is being accessed.

Is this the real life? Or is this just fantasy?

I just never plugged it in to the motherboard, as the light would have annoyed me. 

I might hook it up as another power led

I use mine as an indication if my PC blue-screened. xD When your PC blue-screens, it dumps the memory to the hard drive, then shuts the hard drive down. It's nice when you're doing overnight stress tests. If you wake up to an occasional blinking light, you're stable. If it's not blinking, something's wrong :p
