PC Game Hard Copy Questions

Jigsyy

I have a question, see I've wanted to download my games from steam but there have been some technical difficulties but that doesn't matter as I am going to just buy the hard copy discs but here's the question. Once I insert the disk and install the game and create a desktop shortcut, do i need to still insert the game disc every time i want to play or can i just then click on the shortcut and enjoy the game?

P.S: Reason why i'm asking this is because i still haven't installed the optical drive and I don't want to until iv'e cleared everything up. And if the answer is " yes you still have to insert the game disc every time" then i'll just contact steam support and figure out the whole thing.

Thanks by the way. :D

Steam has nothing to do with the disk. Any unless you find a nocd crack, the disk has to be in the system.

Might be able to rip the iso and mount it but that works like 50% of the time.

You can install the game from Steam or with the disk, but you dont need the disk to play it.

I was also thinking about mounting ISOs.  There must be ways to get round it.

So you're saying that after I install the files from the disk and the shortcut is created, I dont have to insert the disc anymore?

If you buy a hard disc copy of a game it wont have anything to do with steam, it wont be tied to your steam account in any way. And as for if you need the disc everytime you start the game it depenss on the game.

However, steam does allow you to redeem SOME hard copies as digital ones, heres the list of supported ones

tf2 is a free to play, so it can be downloaded/installed from a wherever and it will work. If you installed say gta4 from the cd it wont tie to your account it will still say you need to purchase it

Not entirely true, some games on DVD do use Steam as DRM.

Once you register the game in Steam you have a choice of installlng from DVD or downloading from Steam.

Arma 3,  RaceON, Red Orchestra 2 and The Orange Box for example.

Some games need steam. Example: Sonic Generations

Some games like GTA 4 that may have been published before it made it's way on steam will not require it if it's a retail copy.

UbiSoft games on disc like Watch_Dogs does not use Steam but uses uPlay directly.

In the end, it depends on the publisher.

HP Pavilion p007tx (i5 4210u, gt840m, 8GB DDR3 memory and a 1 TB HDD that makes cool sounds when booting up)

Since my laptop can't run modern games too well I use a PS4
