might take some work to get the 280x to work but should be okay.

I thought the 280x worked out of the box?

Why would you use anything other than mavericks?

Gigabyte boards have a tendency to work better/easier/more consistently. But other boards can/do work. As for an Nvidia GPU, AMD works fine in Mavericks, and I think in pre mavericks with 'some' work.
