Performance wise either used r9 280x or a r9 270x.

I do really like Nvidia's features like optimizing games for performance and such. Does AMD have things like that? If not, do you think it would be worth it to switch over to AMD from my current Nvidia card?

Amd gaming evolved powered by raptr takes care of your needs.

All amd is missing is freeesync which isn't on current midend amd gpu except 285 and 285x. And shield streaming.

If you don't have nvidia shield and gsync compatible monitor, go for amd.

Amd is more power for the money.

I have an MSI P55M-GD45 motherboard, and on the website and in the manual, it says it has PCI-e gen2 x16 slots, would that bottleneck the card substantially?

No, my mobo has only 1 pcie 3.0x16 slot but I run 280x crossfired without problem.
