If you don't already have a 270X, you'd be better off starting with a single R9 290 and a smaller PSU. 650-850W.

I dont have the 270X yet but i have a few questions to ask

is single r9 290 more powerful then two 270X in crossfire?

how many plugs are on the r9 290?

what sort of plugs are on the r9 290?

The R9 290 isn't more powerful in all cases but it is in many, according to these benchmarks: http://www.tweaktown.com/articles/5984/sapphire-radeon-r9-270x-2gb-toxic-video-cards-in-crossfire/index.html

There's also other advantages that having a single GPU brings to consider: less noise, less heat output, less compatibility issues and other CF/SLI shenanigans. I wouldn't recommend doing CF if you don't already have one of the cards. You'll get great performance with a single R9 290 at both 1080p and 1440p and adding a 2nd 290 down the road would destroy CF 270X's. A single high-end card is always recommended over two lower end cards.

Plugs as in video output or power input? The R9 290 has two DVI-D ports, a HDMI port and a display port. It's power is supplied by the standard 6 pin + 8 pin connector.

Here's a good review of it: http://www.anandtech.com/show/7481/the-amd-radeon-r9-290-review
