I need to pick a GPU!

Go to solution Solved by TechFan@ic,

My recommendation would go to the 7970, the three models that I would recommend are the HIS IceQ X2, Sapphire Dual-X & MSI Twinfrozr III.

The HIS overclocks the highest, there is no need to buy a GHz edition model, most regular 7970s can overclock well past 1100mhz without any additional voltage.

In terms of performance the 7970 & 680 are tied in most games, but the 7970 overclocks very well, performs better with anti aliasing, has more VRAM & comes with 4 great games.

I recommend staying away from the Gigabyte & XFX 7970s, both are voltage locked.

If you can please choose one from above and then suggest a brand that i should get from your recommendation.

I'm not sure if i should grab a 7970 or a 680. I have $450 to spend.

I plan on gaming 25% HD video streaming 20% Typing papers 30% video editing 15% music creation 10%

I use 2 24" asus screens. i have enough power and room in my case for any GPU.

Programs i use:

Live 8.0.9

Adobe Premiere Pro

Netflix/Hulu.

Games i play:

Minecraft

BF3

If you suggest the HD 7970 i guess i would be playing those games as well. Never settle Bundle.

Please help!

Thanks.

Although I picked 680, you may also save up your money for a 780. The reason why I chose the 680 is for CUDA.

I would have to agree saving up for a 780 is the way to go. It's at most only 10% slower than the titan. Almost equal performance in a lot of scenarios.

i7 10700k @ 5.1Ghz, 1.37v | Asus Z490-E Strix | Asus Rtx 2080ti Strix | 16Gb Trident Z Rgb @ 3600MHz | Samsung 970 Pro | EVGA Supernova G2 850w  | Corsair 500D | Celcius s36 /w ML Pro's

i7 8700k @ 4.8GHz, 1.31v | Asus Z370-A Prime | Asus Gtx 1080ti Strix | 16Gb Corsair Dominator Platinum | Samsung 850 Evo | Corsair TX 650W  | Corsair 750D | Corsair H100i v2 /w SP-120's

Heres the thing i don't want to spend more then $450 on a GPU. The 780 is not worth it to me. I don't need something that costly regardless of the performance differences.

Though I believe Premiere Pro takes advantage of CUDA cores.

Any brands?

Can't speak specifically about the 7970, but I have a Gigabyte Windforce 3 7950 and it stays very cool (no higher than 70 degrees) and hasn't had any problems yet. It might be a little loud though, because it has 3 fans.

Me: Yeah I just really can't get my H220 working again, I've tried everything that was suggested in the forum.

Brian (Swiftech Support): Hmm, have you tried slapping it?

Yes it does, but he will be using his card more for gaming than editing.
