Just got this:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005TE7GP4

...To switch between speakers/headphones. I have the cables to connect to the thing obviously, but I need a cable to connect from the switch to the Objective. What cable will do the trick? It looks like the switch only takes 3.5mm and the O2 only takes quarter inch. I know some cables are dumb, they only do one channel or some crap like that. Somebody link me to a nice (hopefully relatively short) cable that will do the trick. I think the ideal length is like 1-3 feet. I'm fine paying a bit more for a higher quality-looking cable. Just nice to have nice things. (I don't mean $100+ audiophile cables.)

Sounds elementary but it'll be twice as stupid if I screw it up.

This will work, right?

Hopefully this makes it more clear.

The AB switch allows me to switch between using my headphones or my speakers. The speakers have a 3.5mm plug which plugs in on the right, the headphone can be plugged in on the left. The top connection is to connect it to an amp, in this case the Objective amp/dac combo. The switch on the Sescomm AB Switch changes which plug it's using, the speaker or the headphone. But of course, it needs to make contact with the amp for me to hear anything. The connections on the AB switch is 3.5mm. The connection on my O2 is quarter inch. So I believe what I need is a cable with one side 3.5mm, other side quarter inch. I want to make sure this is correct and the product I've chosen fits the bill.

That Hosa one seems proper for the need. Personally, would've opt for gold plated kind, more aesthetic + more rustproof....:)

I'd dig that, if you could provide me with a link.

I can chuck, say, an extra $5-20 depending on how ballin' the cable is.

AND HOLY CRAP YOU'RE BACK!

While you were gone i went ahead and got the LCD-X, although I'll probably be selling those and just sticking with HD800s.

Pricey, but then again, it's Canare. I've heard of the brand's good reputation from when I was still a kid.

Personally, I'd opt for 3,5mm male to male gold, and get a 3,5mm to 1/4" gold adapter. They're dirt cheap:

The second cable + adapter = less than $1

Yeah, my HE-400 broke, and got it sent to China for a replacement. Lost interest for audio for a while because of that, but got it back when I received the HE-400 replacement  :D

Damn, LCD-X. But I've heard people say that the LCD-2 or 3 sounds better than the X. Maybe fanatics though :)

Oh, and I got me an Aune T1 MK2. Damn, this thing is warm. Just guessing, but I think it'd be perfect for your HD800...

Hmm,

The first link is a no-go for me. Outside of my price range and also 50 feet long?  :o I was looking for 1-3 feet long, 5 max.

Never got Amazon Marketplace and the people there that sell stuff for ridiculous prices. Sometimes there's that one guy that sells something like x10 the price, in this case $33 + shipping for the second cable.  The picture is pretty crappy though, they only have one picture.

BTW, your cheap 3.5 to 3.5 cable has $2 shipping.

I already have a 3.5mm to quarter inch adapter. Guess they don't make designer quarter inch adapters.  :(

What I've seen, it's more of a wash between whether people like LCD 3 or X but most people prefer X over 2 (whether that's due to pricing expectation bias, I don't know). One thing is for certain, black aluminum with black leather is sexier. Nothing more heavy duty than metal, and no wood care.

I was surfing for shoes on Amazon and there was a pair of flats that was sold for like $70,000. Pricing error I guess.

Anywhoo...

I was thinking of going Monoprice for my cables.

http://www.monoprice.com/Product?c_id=102&cp_id=10218&cs_id=1021812&p_id=5576&seq=1&format=2

Whaddya think? Nice thick cable, gold plated. I wish they'd make a $10 cable there that's better in some theoretical way and looks ballin' and braided or something.

I was also thinking of "upgrading" my DVI cable from Monoprice as well. Just because I freakin' can.

The Bespeco Silos looks interesting. It's out of stock though and only one picture. Dem Amazonz neez two wark on taking dem picts.

Thick and bulky, might be taking more space than needed, if rolled or folded. But yeah, should do the job.

If you like braided, there are a lot of options on amazon:

http://www.amazon.com/Jacketed-Tangle-Free-Auxiliary-Samsung-Android/dp/B00HY4PICU/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=undefined&sr=8-2&keywords=braided+stereo+cable

For aesthetic, this one takes the cake, for me:

http://www.amazon.com/PlugLug-Stereo-Cable-accommodates-Smartphones/dp/B00LYOE0GG/ref=pd_sim_sbs_e_1?ie=UTF8&refRID=0NCXKQN63JFADWPHE68G

1 more thing. I don't know if you believe in this or not, but I found that HD800 is kinda sensitive to cable types. I posted in the other thread about it. Oyaide standard gold plated male to male sounds different than the Oyaide Rhodium-Silver male to male. Same source, same ampli, same HD800, yields different sounds. From what I experienced, the gold one yields warmer sound, while the rhodium yields brighter sound. Couldn't replicate it, because I don't have a HD800, tho :)

Try it if you're curious:

Why not all?

Because I feel... well, irresponsible with my money, lol. Feel like I should be saving all of it.

Then again, that argument kindda fell out the window when I decided to spend all this moneys on some expensive stuffs... But yet, when I buy ground turkey at Walmart, I still buy based upon price per ounce.

What the hell is wrong with me?

BTW I don't think that red cable is braided. The red does stand out though. (Speaks to just how boring the cables typically are...)

Pfft. $3200 headphones (MSRP) and I didn't even own a cell phone until like 3 days ago, when my mom forcibly gifted me one out of safety concerns (afraid my car will die at 11pm coming back from work)... speaking of which some asshole smashed my side window which I never bothered to replace, and the windshield which is cracking, lol. I'm fine with not braided, as long as the cable looks and feels like it's good quality. You know Audioquest's $15100 cables? Lol. Its Amazon reviews are full of trolls, yet if you go down to the $300 level or so, then you start to get people saying the sounds is jaw droppingly-awesome in a serious manner.

The famous $15100 Audioquest cable review:

Untitled.png

Regarding the cables you showed: Check this out in the descriptions of one of them:

Tyr 2 is Nordost's logical successor to the apex of their original renown Norse line. Featuring seven 24AWG 99.99999% solid-core OFC conductors, plated with just a 60 micron-thick layer of extruded silver, Tyr 2 delivers the sonic goods of cables costing much, much more. Additionally, Tyr 2 features Nordost’s newest technological discovery, Dual Mono Micro-Filament. This patented technology offers even better performance than Micro Mono-Filament designs. It employs two Mono-Filament threads wound around each other. The Dual Micro Mono-Filaments are then drawn around the conductor in a precise helix pattern. This results in even more air space around the conductors with an 85% reduction in contact. Backgrounds are deep and jet black, sonic response is ultra fast and resolving, all while retaining the original warmth and musicality of your source material. In any hi-fi system where quality really counts, look no further than Tyr 2. The quietest backgrounds, the highest resolution and widest dynamic range of any Norse 2 cable leaves the new Tyr far ahead of the pack.

The new, second generation Norse Series interconnects deliver a level of performance not previously possible at their price points. Nordost's proprietary Micro Mono-Filament construction, first introduced on the legendary Valhalla reference cables, creates a virtual air dielectric complete with an elegantly engineered suspension system. Combined with silver-plated OFC solid-core conductors and FEP insulation throughout, the result is the ideal electrical and mechanically controlled construction for ultra-fast, low-loss signal transfer. Optimized conductor dimensions, and asymmetrical grounding topology significantly extend the musical performance of the new Norse series, finally allowing your equipment to deliver its full performance potential, while the consistency of design and materials across the entire Norse Series means that you can easily prioritize a system-wide solution without compromising the coherence of your cables.

Whole-ly-shiiiiiiit.

I'm going to try the really thick, black, "stealthy" approach. I still need  a way to pimp my setup a bit more though:

http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/202402-making-my-setup-look-better/#entry2746023

:(

Trying to find more creative ways of fixing the ugliness without buying a serious stand. (Make that plural.)

I was thinking black boxes. But try searching that up on Amazon, lol. Or wooden planks, but they don't come in black, I'd have to paint them. I was thinking about reams of printer paper, but that's white and I'm looking for something dark to pitch black.

Eh, what do you expect, they're trying to sell their stuffs. Of course they'll say or write any and everything they can think of. If I want to sell my old sneakers, I'd say they made me sprint 100m in 5 seconds....if that's not so hard to believe....

Yeah, I agree, there is no such thing as a 'cheap hobby'. Every hobbies are expensive, once you get in to it.

About the setup pimping, try DIY stuffs. Thing I like to work with is acrylics or plexiglass. They're priced reasonably, easy to work with (once you know how), and gives a minimalistic elegant look. Easiest is to take a rectangle acrylic sheet, and fold the 2 ends, forming an arch or gate, something like this:

http://www.muji.eu/pages/online.asp?Sec=19&Sub=120&PID=3147

Or make it 4 ends, like this:

http://www.deringhall.com/products/furniture/tables/end-tables/617/hollyhock-square-meiji-acrylic-table

Or, if too lazy to do the handywork, just get a rod, cut it into small pieces, and make legs for the speaker.

http://www.eplastics.com/Plexiglass-Cast-Acrylic-Rod

Or use a large diameter rod (I think they got 8" rod there), and make a single post under the speaker.

If you're into lights and LEDs, even better. Install LEDS around the acrylic, and watch them rock.... :)

For a complete makeover, google 'acrylic table'

Other stuffs I could think of, maybe bamboo, for a more 'ZEN' approach. I've been wanting to make a bamboo gate for a headphone stand, but never got the time.

Alternatively, if you're good on designs, just 3D print something. Coloring is easy, just use spray cans...

I suck at DIY stuff, lol. Uhmm.... yeah.

TBH, your desk is like 5x nicer than mine. I just put every stuffs directly on top, no stands. Cables are running everywhere. Random stuffs from pliers to dental floss are all on my desk. I need a GF....

Who needs girlfriends when you can get headphones?!  :P

The desk was actually free, some neighbor a long time ago didn't want it, so we hauled it all the way back home. It's a very heavy, wooden desk.

GF in sense to keep things tidy at my desk. My desk is 2x1.2m, so I should have lots of space, but yeah, random stuffs piled on top of it, and I'm to lazy to keep it organized....

Yea... Too many things on the desk really hurts the aesthetics. Sad to have good hardware but have it look sad on a messy desk.  :( 2 meters? That's pretty damned long... ( )

Okie okieokie...

The Monoprice cables came in. It's quite nice, but the RCA lines are used for the ground loop isolator and I must have something like that for my speakers or things will go to hell. So I think I want an isolator that looks nice and accepts male RCA connection from the ends of the Monoprice cable, and has a male connector itself to connect to my subwoofer.

Or maybe I should have an isolator with only female connections. Monoprice cable from speakers to isolator, monoprice cable from isolator to subwoofer. It'd make my irrational brain happy.  :) There many isolators on Amazon, so that means I must find a difference between each one and find the best one!!!!
