Scissor-type switches vs Cherry/Khail switches
The BlackWidow is not mine and I have no plans on getting a Razer product...
I'll try to look for the G710 in the local shops...
I don't need new headphones (yet), but the bundle is attractive...
As for the switches, any differences between them? I've got my eyes on a TT ESports Meka with black cherry switches right now... Not sure if it's backlit, but backlighting is optional in my case since I've got a good desk lamp...
There are many mechanical keyboards out there. Most of them use the Cherry MX switches so they are all good and somewhat share the same quality.
However, some keyboards have a better quality plastic for their keycaps(the thing you touch with your fingers when you type, I think the word would be keys or keycaps, not sure), some have a better paint/sticker for the letters/numbers/symbols, etc.
Now, as for the switches, at least the Cherry MX', they have different colors to indicate how they behave. This is a great explanation for how each color behave when pressed. Basically it's like this:
Blacks make no sound and you cannot feel when the key is pressed;
Reds are like the blacks, except they are "lighter" so you don't have to apply so much force so that the key is pressed;
Browns (my favourites) are tactical but make no sound. You can feel when the key is pressed but you won't hear it (a lot);
Blues (from the BlackWidow) are tactical and make a sound when pressed. IMO they are really good but when you need to type at 3am they can be quite annoying;
There are other colors but I have never seen any of them live, only the ones I just told you about. Any switch will be louder than the regular membrane ones because of how they work but, once you feel it, get used to it and like it, it's really hard to go back.
Each color has its "best" usage. They say Blacks and Reds are the best for typing, Blues are the best for high response from your senses so you know when the key is pressed, etc... For me, that's all kind of BS because it really depends on what you feel. I know people that hate my Browns or Blues because they don't like to feel when the key is pressed. I, however, like very much the feeling.
If you can, try to experiment with all of the keys before deciding which one you want. If you can't, try to imagine how it feels and go with it! There are many videos on youtube about this, so I hope you will be pleased with your choice! Unfortunately, mechanical keyboards are more expensive than regular membrane ones so keep that in mind.
Backlit keyboards are cool but are not really necessary. I rarely look at the keyboard when typing/gaming but, in the dark, I find it to be useful every now and then
Think about what you need a keyboard to have and which Cherry MX switch you'd like to have and find the best keyboard for you from there!
