Updates keep installing during shutdown

I have a dell xps 14z with win 7 professional installed on an ssd. I believe during the original install of these 19 updates the laptop fell asleep. Now when ever the pc is running it downloads them again and when I shut it down it installs them again. Not sure what steps to take to make it stop, never had this kind of issue before.

Unless the entire system went to sleep (which i'd find odd, if there was information being transmitted, the wireless adapter should have kept it awake), it should be fine. Try launching to Windows Update and manually initiating the patches. Worth a shot.

So if I pirated it, it would all of a sudden keep installing the same updates on one of my pc's? Anyway it was paid for and hasn't had issues ever till the laptop went to sleep during the shutdown installation.

tried manually installing them and it fails when I do it.

What error does it give when it fails doing them manually? Each error means a different thing and to figure out the problem we'd need to know.

Try deleting pending.xml from c:\windows\winsxs\ if it exists. You will have to give yourself ownership and it is a hidden system file, so the easiest way to do it is to open an admin command prompt and enter "cd c:\windows\winsxs" then "takeown /f pending.xml" and finally "del pending.xml". Restart and try installing them again

Well I couldn't delete the file, even after getting ownership but that program seems to be working. It fixed 4 out of 5 problems. Making progress 3 updates installed out of the 19. Trying for the rest now.

Installed 5 updates during several shutdowns, back to installing the same 19 again.

Try running the utility a few times, with intermediate reboots in between. If it still fails, then try this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058

It resets Windows updates.
