Today I bought a new EVGA Supernova NEX650G. I really like it, but the fan on it is loud even on idle.  My old PSU had a really nice quiet fan, but it wasn't able to handle my 280x. Is it normal to be that loud?

define loud and what you are doing is it loud when you idle on the desktop or in games?

It's almost louder than my 3 Fractal Design 140 mm fans. And it' idle on desktop.

you may need to get one of a higher wattage.... i know sometimes when a psu is pushed to its limits the fan needs to fun at a ridiculous speed to keep it cool which can damage the motor causing excess noise. if not that check to see if the thing has a software thing that you can control the fan curve and maybe its set to run at max the whole time

corsair 600t, msi z87-g45, intel 4770k, 16g patriot viper low-pro ram, asus direct cu2 780, crucial 256gig ssd, seagate baracuda 1tb,

thats strange it could be a bad fan but i have no experience with the smaller evga psus

edit: quick google showed that the psu was noticeable loud at even 50% load so that is most likely the problem as hammerslap1 said

It should be entirely fixable by just replacing the fan.

Yea ofc the NEX650G is a super loud PSU. Just return it if you don't like it.

Oh... Well it's not that big of a deal because I wear headphones, it was just strange to me that this fan is loud.

Well you might get annoyed of it somewhere in the future, just for 20$ you can get a 750 G2 thats million times better quality/performance wise along with a semi-passive fan mode. If you can return it do it imo.
