I'm considering getting a 650w because of a good offer that I got.

I got a single GPU and the system I got really only needs a 500w. 

Will a 650w produce more hear than a 500w, and why ?

It won't. If you look at the efficiency curve, the 650w will actually produce *less* heat than the 500W

This is why you should always get a PSU that's 100-200W above what the TDP of all your components needs

Also it leaves room for expansion, you won't kill your system if you miscalculate, etc.

Remember to be a good citizen and choose a 'best answer' when your problem has been resolved!

(that way people know when a problem's been resolved)

Nope.

Your psu will only use as much power as needed. Modern units won't even bother ramping up the fan unless you are really stressing it
