Migration software does nothing except give you "tools" that try to simplify the process. It does not make things any faster. You will likely get error messages when you do this, because it will detect that the second HDD as an OS installed on it, but just close them and don't worry about them. I've done this for myself and other people many times.

Edit: I'm a little confused by what you asking now that I am reading what you said a second time. If you want to make an exact copy of your HDD on to the SSD you can just clone/mirror it over. Install the SSD clean, nothing on it. Use a clone/mirror program to make an exact copy of the HDD on the SSD. Uninstall the HDD and put the SSD in its place, and you're good to go.

What cloning software would you recommend?

I would suggest doing a search for some and reading reviews on them. I've only ever done manually transfers and have never cloned a drive before, so I can't recommend one. There are tons of free options, but most SSD makers have their own "kits" that they sell. It includes software and a USB cable so you can do the transfer without installing the SSD into the system first. The kits can be purchased separately, and others come with the SSD when you buy it.
