SSHD?

I was looking at laptops for college and I found this HP with a SSHD? According to the Currys website it is a hybrid drive "which combines a large capacity hard drive with a high-performance solid state drive (SSD). Capable of booting, saving and accessing data with the improved speeds of an SSD without sacrificing capacity, it's the ideal storage device for serious on the go computing." Is there a massive difference in terms of performance between this and a normal HDD or is it just fancy marketing?

If you really want to feel the speed, you'll want to pick up an actual SSD. But these drives do have good capacity and can feel a little more snappy than a regular HDD. Still not really a halfway point though, much closer to HDD performance.

Unless you only have one hard drive bay on your laptop, then SSHD can be a good choice as it will feel snappier than the regular HDD. But the best choice is always an actual SSD (and you have the space to install it into your laptop of course)

Cuz for a laptop situation sometimes SSHD is the best choice. If you have money for an SSD then by all means get one, though.

Just adding that some people have had issues with hybrid drives, with ssds being so cheap ti might be a factor.

Of course there's a way to get past that "one hard drive bay" problem on most laptops. There is something called "laptop hard drive caddy" that can help you install another drive into your laptop by replacing the regular DVD optical drive (not the slim slot-loadded one). Just want to add that to the mix
