Normal Or OVERKILLED Beast?

Hello there!

So just for funz I used pcpartpicker.com to "make" a beast machine for like 3-4 years of gaming.

My goal was, when creating this machine to be usefull for games that will come out in 2017 and it will be green, because green.

So when I finnished stacking, the price was pretty high (at least for me) and I don't know if I waisted a lot of money or is it actually so expensive.

Please help me what I can modify to get a cheaper price or "better" performance.

Andddd I'm not 100% sure if I go with 2K resolution or stay with 1080 (if I choose 1080, the price will go down for $608,99 because I don't need another monitor).

Also man up and get Win8.1. It runs faster and will actually get updates for a few more years...

Windows 8.1 is barely different. Plus the taskbar is so much nicer.

the only thing about W8 that I like, is a loading mouse.

2K is the same resolution as 1080p. Resolutions expressed in nK refer to the closest thousands-place number of horizontal pixels, so 1920 x 1080 == 2K (1920) and 2560 x 1440 == 2.5K (2550).

You can also remember what 4K means because 4 1080p applications fit perfectly into a 2x2 configuration in a 4K display.

That really won't help much at all if he stays with a single resolution until 2017

Spoiler

i5 4670k, GTX 970, 12GB 1600, 120GB SSD, 240GB SDD, 1TB HDD, CM Storm Quickfire TK, G502, VG248QE, ATH M40x, Fractal R4

Spoiler

i5 4278U, Intel Iris Graphics, 8GB 1600, 128GB SSD, 2560x1600 IPS display, Mid-2014 Model

Ok, so what is there that I have to change so the PC will work better but stay under 5000$ limit?

Did I screw up with CPU (I know I did with GPU, but you can help it).

Hi iKiWY,

An impressive build idea! Just a small note on the storage. The WD Green drives (http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.aspx?id=780) are reliable, quiet and energy efficient, but they are recommended rather for secondary storage. The drives designed especially for gamers are our Blacks (http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.aspx?id=760), due to their performance.

Hope this helps,

Titania_WD

*Most* un-guided people thought 2K is 1440p equivalent, am I right?

Yeah it's cuz they don't know how K resolution numbers are measured yet. 1440p == 2.5K (2560 horizontal)

I know but, I don't remember typing 2K

I guess that 2am thread editing is a bit late xD

I wanted to type if it was good enough for the screen resoultion that I added in build.
