Maybe skip the physx card completely and just get the best card you can buy now, not to mention CPU physics is faster.

Since you play game that has NV physx enabled and it's an mmo it is going to be hard maxing it out even with a dedicated physx card, just go with a 770 if it is faster and sell the 670, there is no reason keeping it.

The only other way i see is to get another 670 and sli them that way you will get performance boost, but i myself would not do that, so sell the 670 and combine the price of the 650 ti and buy the best NV card you can get for that ( who knows, maybe the 780 gets a discount )

Hi,

Seen as I play PlanetSide 2 an awful lot, and have become so used to the AWESOME PhysX animations that the game has to offer that I can't live without them, I was considering getting a GPU so that I can dedicate it to PhysX. My current system specs are:

i5 3570k

Vengeance 1600 8GB

Samsung 840 250GB

EVGA GTX670 FTW SIG2

Corsair CX600M

And some other unnecessary to note stuff

I have narrowed the choice down to a 640, 650 or 650Ti (by EVGA that is)

Which one of these cards would be better for the task?

And

Would getting a higher GDDR version of it benefit the performance of it when it is serving in its PhysX capacity?

Thanks in advance,

Jack

I would get a 640 1Gb GDDR5 for physX as its basicly a 650 (non-Ti)

780 is a monster. You'll easily get away with just a single 780.

Thanks, seems that I will be holding off from getting a dedicated PhysX card.

The problem I face is that I brought my 670 on April 4th this year, and then the 700 get confirmed basically a month on, even though NVidia had said 'no cards in 2013', I am not really in a position to return it due to 'faults' and then use the refund to get a 770. Which brings me on to the next point, the spec difference between all the other 700 series cards and their 600 series replacements is NOWHERE near as much of a spec jump as the 680 to 780, so I was wondering, do I:

  1. Wait until next year for 800 series
  2. Return my 'faulty' card
  3. Spend the majority of my money on a 770 when its released
  4. Shoot myself for being an idiot

I would rather stay with single card stuff ATM, as Linus said, he would always strongly recommend staying with a single card solution, so I am not really interested in Sli-ing anything.

Thanks in advance,

Jack

Wait for the 800, 700 series isn't a new architecture, 800 will be, AFAIK all the new feature of the 700 series will work on the 600, save maybe GPU Boost 2.0, because it's the same architecture.

And Linus isn't speaking of PhysX card, he's speaking of SLI and CroosFire, don't buy 2 x60Ti when you can buy 1 x80.

Ok, I knew that the architecture was the same, as they are both using the GK104 chip, except for the 780 which is using that GK110 used in the TITAN, and by features what are you referring to, do you mean features that will be added in through driver updates, or physical card features, or both.

Yeah, I probably should have made what I meant clearer, I wasn't referring to PhysX, I was referring to examples like the one that you posted, thanks anyway.

Mostly ShadowPlay, other then that if they didn't upgrade GPU Boost already there's probably a reason for it.

So that leaves something regarding the fan controller adjusting more slowly but I don't think most people care about that. (Because they don't notice it much)

Didn't heard about anything else.

I didn't think about this much, but I guess if I would, then I would probably just use my older nVIDIA card for PhysX calculations. So if I ever uprgade to something like 760Ti/770 in the future, I would just use my 650Ti as a dedicated PhysX card.

Anyway if I would be in your situation I would probably either buy like 640/650 or just make some money over a few moths and buy a better main card and use the old one as PhysX card.

This is the recommended thing to do.
