We all learn it in school way back when but never use it day to day. Only my signature is in cursive, how about you guys?

I only use it in limited circumstances. Hand written letters, and my signature mostly.

Here in Ontario, some schools don't even teach cursive anymore because many people see it as "useless and antiquated". However, this is likely to eventually change again, and many schools still do teach it.

The main reason for learning cursive is for academic research and historical perspective (as well as learning your signature). Almost every important historical document in English is written in cursive. Certainly there are digitized versions available converted into font, but that isn't practical in all cases.

I do wish that people who wrote notes in cursive would only do so if their writing was legible though. I had an older coworker at my last job who wrote all his notes or instructions in cursive and it was fucking chicken scratch. I would constantly have to ask him what portions of his writing meant, because it was not clear. And to be clear, I learned and still write in cursive myself occasionally.

However, there is no need to devote extremely large amounts of time making kids practice cursive over and over again anymore. They should just be taught enough to read it, and to write it out clearly, even if they write slowly. In the modern society we live in, there's really no need anymore to be able to write cursive very quickly - especially at the sacrifice of clarity/legibility.
