Hi guys, I'm here to get help, this is my case: starting from 0 ... I need to build a server for streaming video (PLEX) for about 100 clients, I need to know how much internet bandwidth I need (resolution= 480p/720p, MP4-AAC), What kind of hardware (WHOLE BUILD), concern about HDD speed (looking for solution), I only have the router ... what I would need to build the entire network like "ethernet switch" or "cat6 vs cat5", I have a budget of $2000.

Or maybe can I modify my system:

Core I7 3820

Asus Saberthoot x79

16GB RAMM DDR3 1666

750W Thermaltake 80+ Bronze

Nvidia GTX 760 SLI

Hardrive:

Samsung EVO 840 240GB

1TB WD10EZEX

ST500DM002

For the maximum network capacity you need to multiply your bitrate by the number of viewers.

I dont know why you want to use plex. It is completely dumb to use for this many clients.

Use Amazon AWS to relay a stream. You can do it with VLC or ffmpeg.

You stream to the AWS server only, instead of streaming to 100 clients directly from your source. I stream live sport events (UFC, football and F1) regularly to thousands of viewers using Amazon AWS. It is cheap and quick to set up and virtually limitless.

Hi there ghost47killer,

Do you face any specific problems with the HDD or you wonder whether it will do the job? In my opinion, the WD Blue will most probably fit your purposes. Though, it is not specifically designed for constant video streaming. You may want to check out the WD AV line as it is most suitable for media servers as in your case. It offers greater storage capacity and 24x7 reliability. http://wdc.com/en/products/products.aspx?id=170

I hope this clarified a bit your storage questions,
