Can't delete things "-blank- is in use by another program"

Go to solution Solved by Vacsol,

quit out of any programs which might be using those files, then try again

you shouldn't be trying to delete your program folders anyway, just use the uninstaller to avoid left over files and errors

have you never used the task manager to see running apps before?

I'm a new user to Windows (8.1). Trying to delete things (Origin, Steam and AVG, for instillation on another drive - except AVG) and when I do a window comes up telling me why it can't be deleted. "_(file/folder name)_ can't be deleted because it's in use by another program" it doesn't tell me what program or give me an option to stop whatever is using them and I see nothing open in the bar that shows open programs.

I run my browser through NSA ports to make their illegal jobs easier. :P
If it's not broken, take it apart and fix it.

Stop just Stop.

You should never just delete programs from folders.

Move your mouse to the bottom left of your screen, when the windows logo pops up, right click and choose "Programs and Features" at the top. From there find your program and click uninstall, then follow the instructions onscreen usually Uninstall.
