I need help figuring out how EFI/grub works.  I followed a guide online saying that Linux should put its EFI data in the Windows 8 EFI partition (/dev/sda2), so I didn't make a separate EFI partition for Linux.  I made a swap /dev/sda8 and a / (root partition) like I usually do.  I put grub on the /dev/sda (the MBR of the hard drive).  When I boot I get sent to the grub rescue screen.  I have secure boot disabled and the installer was in EFI mode.

The partitions

I used to remember. BTW, is that Elementary OS or a customized version of another Ubuntu-based distro? Cuz my settings/app store icons are way different.

Ahh, nice to see another eOS person. I'll stick on stable, though. Besides, mine's pretty tweaked. I hope they let you change the transparency of the wingpanel and plank though. Changed the plank theme to Darktheon and sped up all of the animations. Fucking fast now. Faster than Xubuntu. Uses less RAM, even.

that's pretty nice.  I had mine like that, but I had to go through a lot to just update the kernel to get a supported graphics driver, so I want to use 14.04.  I'm also hoping for some battery life improvements :) and trim support

  1. My netbook's graphics were supported out of the box, thank god.
  2. My netbook knows my battery is there... But... the battery refuses to charge, it's so dead.

Also. thanks. Literally took 5 minutes to settle in on the GUI settings. An hour for a wallpaper...

Forgot to mention I changed the buttons to the OS X layout.
