When ever I turn on my computer, I get a message that says, 'Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart. We are just collecting come error info, and then we'll restart it for you'. The error code on the bottom is "0xc000021a". What can I do to fix it?

  • Amd 8320
  • Gigabyte r9 270x
  • Asus M5A97 R 2.0
  • Corsair CX600
  • 1tb WD Blue
  • Windows 8.1
  • 8gb G.skill Ripjaws

Hi Michael, I am sorry to hear about your issue.

There could be several reasons for this error message but in most of the cases it occurs because of the Winlogon.exe file.

In order to make sure which is the route cause you can run Drwtsn32.exe.

Here are the steps you need to follow:

Type System Root\System32\Drwtsn32.exe -I in Command Prompt and hit Enter, then type System Root\System32\Drwtsn32.exe

and then select Append to existing log file, Create crash dump, Visual Notification. After the computer restarts run Drwtsn32.exe to determine what is causing the error.

On the Microsoft Support page you can find detailed information on the different steps you can take in order to troubleshoot the 0xC000021A error.
