Pledge. Bad for PC?

Doughnutnator

Hi! Today I was cleaning my pc, and I used Pledge (The Wood one) for cleaning the front panel of my PC because my house is very dusty, I also cleaned the intake fan with pledge.

Is bad for my case or for the PC? I didn't sprayed Pledge directly, I used a micro fiber for cleaning the case.

I also want to know what's the best option for dusting the interior of the PC, I don't trust a Vacuum because I know that can make a lot of static, so I've been using my breathe to move some dust of the pc :P

Thanks!

Don´t you dare blow in the pc. it will get moisture in your system and it is not good. Get a compressor, or canned air. That is how i at least clean my case. As for the Pledge, i don´t even know what it is.

Just use a moist cloth to clean the case.

Get a can of canned air to dust out the inside.

Pledge should be fine on the case.  I've heard of bikers using it to help keep their hogs looking clean.  I wouldn't use on a grill parts because of the "dust repelling" film pledge leaves behind.  Dust repelling my sound appealing for electronics, but I can't see a filmy layer ever being a good thing where heat and airflow are of concern. Not that I have some sort of electrochemical pledge degree mind you.

Well, you're right, I booted my PC and now my GPU idles at 48°C, but my CPU is normal, idling at 40°C as always.

I will buy some canned air, I don't like it but it's the only way...

Haha I know, I didn't blowed directly on the mobo or GPU, only at the bottom of the case where the PSU is, there was a lot of dust.

So canned air is the way to go?

I blow with my breath all the time, never hurt a thing as far as I can tell. Then again if I really feel like it I can go outside and use my industrial grade air compressor. Never ever have to worry about those cans of air lol.

Anyway use an air compress as long as you are not in a dry environment. Be careful of that. Low humidity plus air compressor sometimes causes static.

muh specs

Gaming and HTPC (reparations)- ASUS 1080, MSI X99A SLI Plus, 5820k- 4.5GHz @ 1.25v, asetek based 360mm AIO, RM 1000x, 16GB memory, 750D with front USB 2.0 replaced with 3.0  ports, 2 250GB 850 EVOs in Raid 0 (why not, only has games on it), some hard drives

Screens- Acer preditor XB241H (1080p, 144Hz Gsync), LG 1080p ultrawide, (all mounted) directly wired to TV in other room

Stuff- k70 with reds, steel series rival, g13, full desk covering mouse mat

All parts black

Workstation(desk)- 3770k, 970 reference, 16GB of some crucial memory, a motherboard of some kind I don't remember, Micomsoft SC-512N1-L/DVI, CM Storm Trooper (It's got a handle, can you handle that?), 240mm Asetek based AIO, Crucial M550 256GB (upgrade soon), some hard drives, disc drives, and hot swap bays

Screens- 3  ASUS VN248H-P IPS 1080p screens mounted on a stand, some old tv on the wall above it.

Stuff- Epicgear defiant (solderless swappable switches), g600, moutned mic and other stuff.

Laptop docking area- 2 1440p korean monitors mounted, one AHVA matte, one samsung PLS gloss (very annoying, yes). Trashy Razer blackwidow chroma...I mean like the J key doesn't click anymore. I got a model M i use on it to, but its time for a new keyboard. Some edgy Utechsmart mouse similar to g600. Hooked to laptop dock for both of my dell precision laptops. (not only docking area)

Shelf- i7-2600 non-k (has vt-d), 380t, some ASUS sandy itx board, intel quad nic. Currently hosts shared files, setting up as pfsense box in VM. Also acts as spare gaming PC with a 580 or whatever someone brings. Hooked into laptop dock area via usb switch

Air compressor too expensive

#BREATHMASTERRACE

I will look into the air cans, they're a little expensive but I always clean my PC each week so the interior of my PC don't need compressed air that bad.

Is true that a painting brush can also be used to clean dust?

Blow into your PC as much as you want, you will never moisture it enough to do anything at all. Use some sort of compressed air though for better results.

As for cleaning fluids i would use something that evaporates without reisdue like destilled water and for the more tricky stuff isopropyl alcohol 99%. Here's a good thread going over various fluids for cleaning. http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/175677-faq-can-i-use-to-clean-my-pc-components-the-go-to-answer/#entry2346325

You can get a good enough air compressor for like, 50 bucks these days, that's all you need. My dad just happens to have a nice dewalt dual tank industrial one.

Yupp, to get it out of all the ridges and corners. Just make sure it's not made of cheap plastic, again due to static build up. An old used one (washed out) would be perfect.

Oh yeah, no matter how hard I blow, freakin corners still keep dust. Thank you, the next week I will dust my PC like a pro.

When you look at it, a 50 dollar "pancake" air compressor is worth it for the money, since it's a one time expense, after a year or 2 of buying air cans you will have spent that much.

You can probably find a good once for 50 bucks on amazon or ebay. The most important thing is a nice air nozzle.
