Hello All,

I am looking to build a new computer and need some peoples thoughts on what I am currently thinking about getting parts wise.

Total budget is 4,000 USD.

This will mostly be for gaming purposes as well as programming purposes. I play most types of video games.

I am wanting to go with a 3 + 1 setup with the 3 monitors being the exact same. I currently have an ASUS VE278Q

and an HP 2159m monitor. I am trying to decide if it would be better to get two more of the ASUS VE278Q monitors for the setup or if

the new monitors are worth the extra expense.I was looking at 3 ASUS VG248QE for the main monitors but not sure if it is worth it or if

I should just wait for the new Nvidia G-Sync monitors that are coming out.

I do not need a mouse, keyboard or an OS. I have Windows 7 ultimate

I am upgrading due to my tower that I built in 2008 is starting to have problems running games on max settings as well as slowing down.

Computer case - Cooler Master HAF X

MOBO - ASUS MAXIMUS VII

CPU - Intel Core i7-4790K

PSU - CORSAIR AXi series AX1200i

RAM - CORSAIR Vengeance Pro

HDD - WD BLACK SERIES WD2003FZEX - two HDD for possible raid, have not decided yet

GPU - EVGA 06G-P4-3787-KR - two for SLI

NZXT Sentry-2 5.25" Touch Screen Fan Controller

Currently have

SSD - 2 Kingston SSDNow V300 Series SV300S37A/240G

CD drive - ASUS DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS

Other things to know

I am not attached to any one computer case so if you think think there is a better case I am open to changing the case.

Also I will be replacing the majority of case fans with some form of Noctua case fan to reduce noise as much as possible.

I have never worked with liquid cooling before which is why there is none in this build. I am willing to try liquid cooling

but not too sure about it.

Thanks for taking the time to look at this and I am open to any suggestions to changes for something that is better for a little bit more

or if there is something that is less but just as good or maybe better.

You don't need a 1200W PSU, bloody hell thats overkill. Go with 850/860W.

Edit: And replace the HAF X to 750D. i wouldn't go with HAF X case because the looks. i already owned HAF X its not bad case but the 750D would looks better with huge window and looks better for motherboard, graphic cards etc.

Really up to you.

I wasn't sure if you needed a monitor so I included it anyways. Spending more than this on a PC would be dumb

Hey there Adalwolf,

Concerning the HDD, WD Black is great for gaming and heavier usage. It is designed and build for that purpose.

However, If you are planning on putting drives in RAID, I would suggest you look at WD Red drives. They are designed specifically for RAID with their NASWare 3.0 and perform great in RAID environments.

Here's a link to check them out:  http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.aspx?id=810

If you have any questions about them or about RAID in general, feel free to ask. :)

Captain_WD.

If this helped you, like and choose it as best answer - you might help someone else with the same issue. ^_^

  • 2 weeks later...

This is currently what I am looking at.

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/4QtZXL

I am going with the corsair 750D after looking at cases first hand so that is not going to change now.

I am on a 4k usd budget still.

I decided to not go with the noctua fans due to where I will be placing the tower where it will be visible and I do not care for the tan and brown color combo. I am going for a black/red color combination

Currently, I am looking at either the ASUS VG248QE monitors or the BenQ 2411z or the 2420z monitors for a 3 monitor landscape setup.

Should I wait till Nvidia reveals the new graphics cards before I buy the 780's?

I decided to set up the main HDD in raid 1 setup due to I will be doing work on this computer now as well.

I am open to suggestions for everything else but changing to AMD for either graphics card or CPU.
