As long as you're using good thermal paste you should be fine :) That's where thermal paste is for too, make contact between the plates and fill in scratches etc.

Maybe not, you can see where the part of the heat sink makes contact with the CPU and it's a bit far from it. The way you attach it is with the plates/braces so I don't even think that scratch will be an issue.

It's sad though, having a scratch on shiny things :(

You can bark like a dog, but that won't make you a dog.

You can act like someone you're not, but that won't change who you are.

Finished Crysis without a discrete GPU,15 FPS average, and a lot of heart

How I plan my builds -

Spoiler

For me I start with the "There's no way I'm not gonna spend $1,000 on a system."

Followed by the "Wow I need to buy the OS for a $100!?"

Then "Let's start with the 'best budget GPU' and 'best budget CPU' that actually fits what I think is my budget."

Realizing my budget is a lot less, I work my way to "I think these new games will run on a cheap ass CPU."

Then end with "The new parts launching next year is probably gonna be better and faster for the same price so I'll just buy next year."

Simply my first time installing a CPU and i want to make sure everything is at 100%. Getting paranoid as hell :(

Anyways thanks for the quick responses!

And also, storing the chopper plate thingy in a plasic bag will not harm it right? i don't have the original plastic which guarded it.

:/

Nope, its not even going to make contact with a normal sized CPU, and if it did, the thermal paste would get inside the holes anyways.

What? Do you mean the black plastic socket guard? Just toss that out or save it, doesn't matter.

I don't have it, but i have a few days until my H60 finds a new home (or PC). So for the meanwhile i kept the chopper plate inside a plastic bag. Wondering if it won't damage it.
