Cpu upgrading help

Hey guys,  Im currently running a amd fx6100 and thinking about upgrading, I was thinking of getting a i5 3570k is it worth it for gaming.

It is worth it, but if you want to upgrade I would suggest selling the 6100 and getting an 8350 since you already have an AMD motherboard and save the extra money for a better GPU, if you want to upgrade that as well.

It would not be worth it to upgrade to an Intel for two main reasons:

1. You already have a fairly recent CPU and for gaming, performance rest more heavily on the GPU

2. You would need to buy a new motherboard for the CPU and install it with your current rig. It's not hard but it would still not be as easy as getting an 8350 (if you must upgrade)

exactly this, don't spend too much money right now, even if you have to buy a new mobo it's cheaper than a 3570 with a good mobo, so 8350 ( and if you want a new motherboard 990x chipset ) is the way to go

Yeah iI completely +1 to the 8350 idea. It is probably your best option if you wanna get the performance and not spend too much. What GPu are you running though btw?

id say get another 660 and 8150 / 8120 if you can find them cheap enough, just sold my 8120 on ebay for 130. that will surely prep you for arma 3 and dayz

I would go with the 8350 if you plan on going AMD because this has more cores than the i5 which will benefit because things are starting to make use of those cores. If you are planning to go Intel, I would wait for Haswell like Hirad123 said.

i highly doubt its worth "upgrading" just because bulldozer was a fail (so you'll get nothign for your chip) doesnt mean to jump ship.
unelss its severly holding you back in something (in which case you should be learning to overclock with it) then be happy you just saved yourself a few hundred bucks.
if you do wan to upgrade cpu get an 8320 and overclock that with the knowledge you should be gaining from learning to overclock the 6100.
find the highest turbo clock speed of any bulldozer chip and aim for that-if amds willing to sell it then id say thats fair enough)-make sure you got a good cooler.
if you want better game performance then once you've overclocked get a better graphics card???

edit, you have a 660, SELL IT (unless you use sony vegas and do video rendering with it), get a 7870 tahiti LE and watch as many youtube videos and reviews as you can.

Thanks for the help once again, But i've been reading that most games today still don't use many cores that well. And that intel chps have more power per-core so its better for gaming

when we're those posts from? back in 2008 that was true and there are some old titles that still dont and people love those games, but if you compare an i3 2100 to an fx4300 the fx4300 will beat it in pretty much any decent game and is overclockable.

I like minecraft and world of tanks as much as the next person but buying a whole new system just because the games you play are poorly threaded and donkeys old is no excuse.

what do you think is going to happen when newer games are developed for newer consoles? we're at the beginning of a big swing in the way games are made and it'll probably last another 5 years which is more than can be said for dual cores (hyperthreaded or not)
