You probably want to exhaust towards the back or top of the case.

I would recommend a push configuration, so towards the I/O.

Towards the io is best, especially if you have front fans and one in the rear, which is more or less in line with where the cooler would sit. If you have intake fans on the side and exhaust on the top, you would get effective cooling with is mounted vertically, however I wouldn't suggest that fan config without a front intake as you could create a 'dead area' around the drive bay. IMHO, the safest option it the common front to back airflow.
