How much damage and what damage can defragmentation cause to a SSD?

 

(Just out of curiosity.)

It just uses up more write cycles. I'm not sure, but I don;t imagine it's much in all practical terms.

SSD have a limited amount of write cycles, and defragging involves a lot of reading and writing which is bad for you SSD´s performance and lifespan.

I don't know how true it is today but a friend of mine had an original ssd and did a defrag and it messed up the memory controller and made it where it didn't recognise almost half of its memory. I have heard they don't have this issue anymore but please just for once don't try this at home.
