mSATA Boot Drive

Works just like a normal SATA drive. Select it installing Windows/Linux, and you're good to go.

I've never personally worked with an mSATA drive before, so I've come to all of you for answers. I have a classmate who wants to add an mSATA drive to their laptop, and use it as a boot drive.

 

Are their any tricks to using an mSATA drive as a boot drive, or any tricks to using one overall?

This classmate already has an Adata mSATA drive, but I'd like to personally upgrade my latop later on with 2, Samsung 840 Evo mSATA drives, and I'd love to know what issues to expect.

its pretty much like a normal drive, select it (he mSATA ssd) when installing windows and you should be fine

That's what I assumed, but googling things to find out for them, was revealing that some motherboards don't allow you to select it, or don't even recognize it until the OS is installed. Figured I'd come here and ask from people who've done it, so I don't tell them anything wrong.

I figured as much. I've got an MSI GE60-2OD which has a normal 2.5" drive, but also happens to have 2 mSATA slots, which is where part 1/3 of my upgrade would like to go to. The other parts would be a RAM upgrade to 16GB, and installing a WD Black Squared as my boot drive/mass storage.

Lol. for the most part, I try to keep things on-topic, and I only help when I know I can, for the most part. A good portion is me staying out of the networking sub-forum though... having my CCNA makes it hard to read some of the things posted in their at times.
