Hey guys,

I'm going to buy a GPU today and I really don't know who to go with. I know both have their ups and down but I've heard a lot of negative things about AMD's driver support and heat throttle issues because they run hotter. But AMD also appears to be the better bang for buck right now, since I was going to go 770 which I think is equal to the 280x on a 1440p monitor.

It's not a case of who is better, it is a matter of what is your budget and what you want the card for.

What is your budget, where do you live and what do you plan on doing with the card? (in regards to gaming, video editing etc)

Shot through the heart and you're to blame, 30fps and i'll pirate your game - Bon Jovi

Take me down to the console city where the games are blurry and the frames are thirty - Guns N' Roses

Arguing with religious people is like explaining to your mother that online games can't be paused...

Around $400, gaming, Photoshop, video editing. I also need it to last a few years through university, where I'll be using a lot more digital programs I haven't heard of yet. I know AMD and OpenCL are amazing on Vegas but that's the only real benefit I see for AMD aside from it being cheaper.

I toally like my GTX 780 but I still cant play Euro Truck Simulator 2 with Flash running in the background. Damnit. Besides of playing a boring game it totally depends on what you want to have. In the past Nvidia had the stronger cards but it looks like AMD is returning from the dead at least software whise. They have got an Geforce Experience equivalent which seems to work fine and with FreeSync they have interesting new technoligy like Nvidia's GSync. But what I think is that neither of these cards are perfect to play in 1440p.

I once had one of these, now I've got this.

Well if I stick with EVGA vs ASUS the prices are pretty damn close, but if I go outside of those brands the 280x is around $50-60 cheaper after tax.

I might get a 290 actually. I'm unsure.

just take your budget, find a card which you can afford from AMD and nvidia look at the benchmarks of a few games for both cards then buy the higher performing one. Unless you are working in a small form factor build then you might want to consider a nvidia a little bit more.

I seriously hate people who put, "AMD VS NVIDIA". What are you trying to do? Get all the fan boys to go to your post? Just give a brief explanation of what you want for your GPU in your title.

I was trying to simplify the question as much as possible, and it all came down to that. Don't be rude because I have a legitimate question.
